Swati Sengupta is an author who examines gender and identity through ethnography and feminist historiography. Most of her work – fiction and non-fiction for children, young adults and adults – focuses on power dynamics and politics of identity, challenging traditional presuppositions. Her interest in the field is empirical rather than theoretical or academic.

Swati passionately studies masculinity and its history to make sense of the inequalities in social systems and practices against women and other marginalized genders. She constantly tries to push traditional boundaries in books for children and young adults to discuss gender and equality, social hierarchical politics, oppressions and repressions involved in social stratifications. She does this by mixing fun with facts, histories with herstories, sports with gender, and so on.
